Biography
My name is Dr. Usama Gad. I am a tenure-track assistant professor of papyrology and Greco-Roman studies at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. My PhD titled Edition of Greek Documentary Papyrus Texts from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, was completed at the University of Heidelberg, Germany in 2016. I am the co-founder of Everyday Orientalism, a platform that reflects on how history and power shape the way in which human societies define themselves through the “Other,” and the founder of Classics in Arabic: Greco-Roman Legacy in Egypt , a blog that aggregates publications and activities related to Arabic scholarship in the field of Greco-Roman studies. My current research interests include the reception of classical studies and ancient history in postcolonial Egypt.
