Biography
Amr M. E. Safwat (S’91–M’01-SM’17) received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering in 1993 and 1997, respectively, from Ain Shams University, the B.Sc. in Business in 1997, from Ain Shams University, and the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA, in 2001.
From 2001 to 2002, he was with Cascade Microtech Inc., OR, USA. In 2002, he joined the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, Ain Shams University, where he is currently a full professor and department chair. In November 2016, he joined the information technology industry development agency (ITIDA), on part-time basis, as the manager of the information technology academia collaboration dept. (ITAC).
Prof. Safwat was a Visiting Professor at Otto-Von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany, in 2004, the Institute National Polytechnique de Grenoble, Grenoble, France, in 2005, and the Radio Laboratory and MilliLab, University of Aalto, Espoo, Finland, from 2006 to 2007. His current research interests include metamaterial, microwave passive planar structures, and microwave photonics.
Prof. Safwat was a recipient of the Egyptian encouragement state prize for engineering sciences, in 2007 and 2014, and the first class medal of excellence from the president of Egypt in 2017
