Abstract
In this work, the effects of Ezalo tablets ( pyr;ethrins and piperonyl butoxide) a synthetic pyrethroid used for control of insects living externally were studied on the liver and kidney fimctions of albino rats.
Albino rats were used for studying the effect of inhalation of Ezalo tablets vapours for a duration of 10 hours daily using Ezalo apparatus.
They were•divided into (3) three main groups :
Group (1) : Rats exposed to the insect repellent I Oh/day for one month. This group was divided to (2) two subgroups.
(A): Rats exposed to one Ezalo tablet each day.
(B): Rats exposed to two tablets of the insect repellent/day .
Group (2) : Rats exposed to the Insect repellent l Oh/day for (2) two months.. They were divided to (2) two sub-groups :
(A): Rats subjected to one Ezalo tablet each day.
(B): Rats subjected to two ezalo tablets of the insect repellent /day.
Group (3) : Control rats : Animals in this group were maintained. under similar environmental conditions as exposed rats but in a separate room away from the effect of the insect repellent After each mor.th
rats from each group were anathetized and dissected to withdraw samples of blood from the abdominal aorta to apply the liver and kidney function tests, and to extrapolate the changes occuring .
Inhalation of Ezalo tablets showed significant changes in various parameters indicating toxicity to the liver and kidney .
The total protein level and albumin in blood of rats was decreased due to damage of liver cells.
Regarding the serum transaminases in this study, (AST) aspartate amino transferase , and (ALT) alanine amino transferase the damage of the liver of the exposed rats was realized .
