Abstract


This study reviewed recurrence or progressiOn of intracranial meningiomas and some factors may affect the recurrence as patient's age and sex, location and histopathologic type of the tumor, extent of the surgical removal of the tumor and the effect of post-operative radiation. The study included 45 patients with recurrent intracranial meningiomas treated in Neurosurgical department in Maadi Anned Forces hospital in the period from July 1990 to July
1997.



These 45 patients represented 13.2 percent of patients with intracranial meningiomas treated in the above period.


The mean •age of recurrence was 46.8 years. The maximum incidence occurred in the fifth decade oflife (37.8
%), and the least recurrence occurred in the third decade (8.9

%).



Male represented in 44.4 percent of patients and females in 55.6 percent, with female predominance in a ratio of 1.25:1.


According to age• and sex, the mean age of males was

47.5 years older than that of females, which was 46.2 years. The maximum incidence of recurrence rates in males and females were in the fifth decade oflife. The rates were 45% in
