Comparison Between Abdominal Assisted Transanal Soave and Swenson Techniques in Treatment of Children with Hirschsprung Disease: Ain Shams Experience

Mohamed Ali Mahmoud Bersy;

Abstract

Abdominal assisted transanal Soave and Swenson techniques are the most commonly utilized procedures for HD. However, there is no consensus whether there is a demonstrable difference between the Soave and the Swenson approach. The rationale for the submucosal dissection done in the Soave operation is that it will decrease the risk of injury to pelvic structures including autonomic nerves, urethra, prostate or vagina, which can lead to devastating sequelae. Those preferring the Swenson approach suggest that the muscular rectal cuff left behind in the Soave operation can lead to obstructive symptoms.
