HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AS CATALYSTS IN VITALIZING PUBLIC PLACE

Abstract
The study examines the concept of space and its historical background, as well as the different concept of space from place and the impact of human behavior on it. Research begins by defining the space and then studying its components, classification and importance. The study then proceeds to study the concept of place, its characteristics and types; then study the humanistic theories of the behaviors, needs and activities and their impact on the open space; and then deduce the design criteria for making place. After that, the research deals with examples of international spaces and then applying a local Egyptian example to evaluate the performance of the urban space through the criteria developed and how to use them to develop the urban spaces.
