Effect of Different Anaesthetic •Techniques on serum Interleukin-6; A New Marker of Surgical Stress

Adel Mikhail Fahmy;

Abstract

A large amount of data has been accumulated on the effects of trauma on immunological variables, such as cytokines, which are important mediators of host defence mechanisms and the systemic inflammatory response. Surgical trauma has been shown to augment the plasma concentrations of interleukin-6 in a manner related to the severity of operation (Ertel et aL, 1990).
