Microbiological studies on ophthalmic bacterial infection among some Egyptian patients

Abstract


The human eye is an organ which reacts to light and allows vision. Several complications can be threatened human eye and loss of vision. Bacterial eye infection is one of main cause of eye infection in Egypt. Careful clinical studies have been conducted in order to guide physician’s best antibiotic. There are several antibacterial agents in market that can be used for eye infection although there have the same active ingredient, same concentration, but they had different effect.
This study was undertaken to isolate and identify the aerobic bacterial pathogens causing ocular infections and to determine their in-vitro bacterial susceptibilities to commonly used pharmaceutical preparation contain antibacterial agents in the market.
A total of 180 clinical specimens were collected from 180 patients with eye infection from Research Institution of ophthalmology Giza, Egypt. Out of 180 specimens 60 (33.3%) were free from aerobic bacteria.
