“Molecular Design, Radiolabeling and Biological Evaluation of Some Anticancer Drugs for Certain Nuclear Medicine Applications”

Abstract

The need of techniques for early diagnosisof tumors is essential to overcome the problem of silence invasiveness of this disease. The invasive methods for tumor imaging are not suitable for routine clinical use because of their invasive nature, inconvenience and inability to acquire repeated measures during treatment. These disadvantages stimulated the development of the noninvasive imaging methods. These methods involvemagnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and computed tomography (CT)as anatomic imaging techniquesin addition to the nuclear medicine imaging techniques involving single-photon emission computed tomography(SPECT( and positron emission tomography (PET) which considered as function imaging techniques. The sensitivity of MRI and CT to identify certain tumor depends on the tumor size and regularity. While the success of the nuclear imaging techniques depends more on the radiopharmaceutical tumor uptake and the sufficient activity contrast between tumor and normal tissue. The main criteria of the radiopharmaceutical to be a selective tumor imaging agent is the high target/non target (T/NT) ratio.
