BREAST CONSERVATION SURGERY CLINICAL AND HISTOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY
ADEL IBRAHIM EL SAYED LOTFY;
Abstract
Breast conservation surgery for small early breast cancer is an appealing option for patients. Both large and small randomized trials are now available with long tenn follow up that show equivalent survival with breast preserving surgery versus mastectomy. These studies also show no difference in local recurrence or distant metastases. Low complication rates and good to excellent cosmetic outcomes are well documented.
Breast conservation therapy is defined as excision of the primary
tumor and adjacent breast tissues with safety margins and axillary lymph node clearance followed by radiation and systemic therapy in early breast cancer stage I and II.
