Abstract

Meningiomas are . of the most common intracranial tumours of non glial origin. Posterior . fossa meningiomas form 10% of all intracranial menmg10mas (about 15% of primary brain tumours).

The most vital structures are situated in the posterior cranial fossa making it the most important and unique part of the cranial cavity. Any expansion of a meningioma in this part is at the expense of that resident structures. This reflects the great importance of complete and precise knowledge about normal and pathological microsurgical anatomy of every case with posterior fossa meningioma to plane the most fruitful management.

This clinical study includes 20 patients with posterior fossa meningioma admitted and managed in neurosurgery depmtments of Ain Shams University Hospitals, in the period between Jan (1996) to Dec. (1999). There were 7 cases of
. CPA meningiomas, 5 cases of foramen magnum meningiomas, 3 cases of cerebellar convexity meningiomas,
2 cases of petroclival meningiomas, 2 cases of tentorial

meningiomas and 1 case of 41

ventricle meningioma.

The tumour in this study was more common in female than malein ratio of 4:1.
