MAHMOUD MOHAMED AHMED ELBORDINI;

Abstract

The present study was carried out to investigate the quality of wastewater i.e., industrial, sewage and mixed wastewater (industrial, sewage and agricultural wastewater) which are being reused for irrigating some soils ofQalubia Governorate and the effect on the environment. A survey study for water sources, soils, earthworms and plants was done. Moreover, certain amendments i.e., ground cotton stalks, lime, rock phosphate, K 2EDTA, calcium citrate and citric acid, were applied to contaminated soils; namely Musturud and Elgabal-Elas:fur in a soil column experiment to reduce the chemically available form of heavy metals i.e., Fe, Zn, Cu, Co, Ni and Pb and their transformations among the different fractions. Also, a suitable model map for soil contaminated with heavy metals representing Elgabal-Elasfar area was constructed using geographical information systems (GIS) to outline the contaminated parts from the studied area.
