Abstract
The fetus has become a patient the obstetrician can diagnose and treat. However the concept of the futus as a patient has only been advanced substantially during the last decade when the sophisticated antenatal surveillance techniques provided the means of detailed anatomical examination of the fetus and fetal tissue sampling.
