Comparison of the Clinical Neuromuscular Pharmacology and Cardiovascular Effects of Cisatracurium Versus Vecuronium During Outpatient Anaesthesia

AMR SAYED SALAMA;

Abstract

Cisatracurium IS an intermediate-acting benzyliso quinolinium neuromuscular blocker that is one of the stereoisomers of atracurium.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare the pharmacodynamics as well as hemodynamic profile of Cisatracurium in comparison with vecuronium during outpatient anesthesia.

Ninety (ASA physical status I or II) patients aged from
18 to 60 years were scheduled for elective outpatients surgical procedures. They were categorized into four groups; group I, II, III each group (n = 20) and group IV (n =30) which was further subdivided into 3 subgroups IVa, IVb and IVc (n = 10) in each one.

Patients of groups I, II and III were premedicated with midazolam 30 J.!g/kg and anesthesia was induced with fentanyl
2J.!g/kg and propofol 2mg/kg and maintained with 35%
oxygen/65% nitrous oxide, 30s after propofol administration the muscle relaxants were injected over 5-10s as follows: Cisatracurium 0.15 mglkg (3xED95) (group 1), Cisatracurium
0.25 mg/kg (5xED95) (group II) and vecuronium 0.15 mglkg
(3xED95),) (group III), 120s later, intubation was attempted then anesthesia was maintained with 35% oxygen, 65% N20 and
