STUDY OF DISABILITIES AMONG INPATIENT CHILDREN IN A GENERAL PEDIATRIC WARD OF A UNIVERSITY CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

Abstract
From a general Pediatric ward of Cairo University Children's Hospital, children with different disabilities were documented in a period of 6 months from I st Dec. 2002 to 31 May 2003. A full medical report of the child's condition was given. This included a medical and developmental history and a thorough physical and neurological examination. Medical testings, special examinations and laboratory analysis were taken according to the condition.
Our study comprised a total of 54 cases with disabilities, 29 (54 %) were males and 25 (46 %) were females. Age ranged from 15 days to 12 years. Family history was positive in 5 cases (9 %), consanguinity was positive in 20 cases (37 %), and socio-economic status was low in
44 (81 %).
