Abstract
Trauma is a serious health problem. It is the leading cause of morality and disability during the 1st four
decades of life and the third most common cause of death overall.
>- The spectrum of injury ranges from trivial to the
catastrophic and the initial assessment, resuscitation and investigation of a patient with abdominal trauma must be individualized.
>- Assessment and management of patients with trauma
remains a challenge for emergency surgeon.
>- Accurate diagnosis and prevention of unneeded surgery is important goal in the patient management.
>- Major haemorrhage with resultant hypotension is the
hallmark of central, large vessel injury.
>- The clinical features suggesting injuries of the great vessels.
• Cardiac arrest
• Persistent shock
• Cardiac tamponade
• Wide mediastinum
