CLINICAL AND LABORATORY ASSOCIATES OF SUBJECTS WITH BRIGHT LIVER OF UNCERTAIN ETIOLOGY

Abstract


Bright liver is common medical problem; the present study was . carried out on 4 7 patients who were incidentally discovered to have bright liver during ultrasound examination (not done for assessment of lll.(er status) compared to 51 individuals who were also incidentally. discovered to have chronic diffi1se liver disease during ultrasound examination. Eve1y patient of the two b'foupswas subjected to:
History taking.

- General and local examination.

- Complete blood picture.

Prothrombin time. SGPT and SGOT.
Bilirubin (total and direct). Serum albumin:
Cholesterol, tfiglycerides, HDL and LDL. Fasting blood sugar.
Viral markers: HBsAg, HBCigG and HCVAb. We can conclude the following points:
• Liver enzymes are higher in patients with chronic liver disease than patients with bright liver. The mean level of ALT was 46.13 U/L and it was elevated above the upper limit of nonnal in 14.8% of patients in the first gronp, while in the second group the mean level of this enzyme was 81.9 U/L and it was elevated above the upper limit of nonnal in 23.5% of those patients.
