NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION CONTROL SYSTEM IN EL-GALAA FAMILY MILITARY HOSPITAL

Abstract
Nosocomial infection is acquired in hospitals, nursing homes and other patient
:ettings, usually from the health care facility environment or health care workers. Infection
:ontrol within a health care facility reduces the risk of nosocomial infections, thus decreases norbidity and mortality, as well as their associated costs.
The purpose of this study was to assess nosocomial infection control system in El-Galaa Family Military Hospital based on assessment of infection control knowledge and performance practiced by different groups of medical health care providers as well as assessment of hospital and personal surveillance system.
To accomplish this purpose, 170 health care workers, 20 physicians,
80 nurses, 20 dietitians, 10 sterilization workers, 20 laundry workers and
20 domestic workers working during the year 1998 at El- Galaa Family Military Hospital, working in 9 inpatients wards and departments, with different groups of ;age, experience years and educational levels were chosen to conduct the study (this was the whole available number). Data were collected during a period of six months from 1-5-1998 to 31-10-
