Abstract

This study investigated the effect of impression technique either single step or double step on the dimensional accuracy of working casts produced using two different impression materials (Vinyl polysiloxane and Polyether).the study included the effect of pouring time and re-pouring on dimensional accuracy of the working casts.

In the present investigation an epoxy resin cast was constructed for impression making of the casts for dimensional accuracy testing .rigid custom impression trays were used as to minimize the deformation of the impression materials and the forces applied while seating and removing the tray from the cast.

Three measurements were taken for each cast by measuring the distance between the left first premolar and the distobuccal cusp of the left second molar (mesiodistal) and a straight measurement (buccolingual) was taken between the distolingual cusp of the first molar and the distolingual cusp on the opposite side. The third measurement (diagonal) was taken from the left first premolar to the mesiobuccal cusp tip of the right second molar. These measurements were carried out on the epoxy resin cast and the casts made from each of the 3 materials for dimensional accuracy testing.

Data were collected from all the tests previously done according to the sample of grouping, in the form of tables of means and standard deviations. The collected data were then statically analyzed.

Data analysis in this study was performed using Multifactorial analysis Of Variance ANOVA was then used to detect the effect of the impression material, technique and pouring time for each dimension on the dimensional accuracy.

The results of this study revealed that the elastomeric impression material used exhibited comparable dimensional accuracy with Vinyl polysiloxane impression material having best statistically significant results.
The impression technique showed statistically significant results with the two step impression technique, the pouring time showed statistically significant results with 1day and 3 days.
Re-pouring of impression materials showed reasonable results for dimensional accuracy testing.
