CARDIOVASCULAR RISK FACTORS IN HEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS

Abstract

vD is a common and important complication inpatients with advanced CKD. Because patients with CKDare frequently excluded from cardiovascular trials, noclearstrategies have been developed specifically for the detection and treatment of C.V.D in these patients, clinicians are in greatneed of randomizedclinical trials that enroll solely patients with CKDin whom diagnostic and treatment strategies arebased on current guidelines.such studies would providethe best evidence for choosing the right strategy to screen and treat C.V.D in this high-risk group of patients.
Patients with CKD have a high burden ofcardiomyopathy, atherosclerosis, and arteriosclerosis.Although, patients with CKD share many ofthe same cardiovascular risk factors with thegeneral population, there are additional risk factors, such as anemia and abnormal calcium/phosphorus metabolism, that place these patientsat even greater risk for CVD mortality.BecauseCVD begins during the early stages of CKD,before ESRD, it is important to identify patientsat risk long before the need for renal replacementtherapy.
It is important to distinguish between twodifferent kinds of risk factors.
