EVALUATION OF TRANSVERSAL VERSUS TORSIONAL ULTRASOUND MODALITIES IN PHACOEMULSIFICATION

Mohamed Ibrahim Saleh Mohamed;

Abstract

Since the invention of phacoemulsification, ongoing attempts have and will be made to improve efficiency and safety of phaco machines. Of these efforts we studied thoroughly 2 commercially available ultrasound modalities; the transversal and torsional, and both proved to be safe and effective for performing routine cataract surgery. The choice of which of these technologies to use is according to surgeon preference. Further studies are needed to study the effect of these technologies on more difficult situations like denser nuclei, corneal endothelial diseases and shallow anterior chamber.
