Nuclear Matrix Proteins in Haematological and Non • Haematological Malignancies

Marwa Ali Mahmoud Abdou;

Abstract

The nuclear matrix has been defined for the past 20 years as the non chromatin protein and ribonucleoprotein network remaining in the nucleus following the removal of membrane, cytoskeletal and chromatin elements by detergents,DNase digestion and high ionic strength buffers.
NM contains structural elements of nuclear pore complexes, lamina, granular and fibrous internal matrix structure that extends throughout the interior of the nucleus,and residual nucleoli.
The important functions ofNMPs include;the three dimensional organization of DNA, they govern the spatial arrangement of chromatin into loop domains and is thought to stabilize these structures through specific matrix attachment regions(MARs)which associate actively transcribed genes so NM is associated with the processing of RNA. NM is considered to be the site of DNA replication, viral proteins interaction, binding sites for some hormones, carcinogens and
drugs.
