Evaluation of Quafitative and Quantitative Platelet Defects Using Flow Cy tometry

Abstract

The study of platelets represents a newly emerging arena for flow cytometry in both clinical and research applications, as it exploded a number of advantages in studying different platelet pathophysiological defects and the three functional responses of platelets, release, adhesion and aggregation.

The aim of the study was to use rapid, reproducible and non invasive technique for evaluation of thrombocytopenic disorders . due to excess immune destruction and differentiate ft from those due to failure of marrow thrombopoiesis. The present work comprised a total of 72 cases divided into

35 ITP (13 acute, 22 chronic), 10 patients ITP in remission, 7 GT

and 6 aplastic anemia.

All cases were subjected to full history taking, proper clinical examination and routine laboratory investigation of CBC, platelet count, MPV and PCT. Specific laboratory assessment by FCM for RP, PAigG, CD41 and CD62.
