Evaluation of Phaco-Prechop Technique

Abstract
This study was carried on for evaluation of the phaco prechopping technique on 25 patients (Group A) and using the divide and conquers technique on another 25 patients (Group B) as a control group.
In prechopping group, the effective ultrasound time was . 19.36 seconds,_ the mean total energy was 2026.88 Joules and the endothelial cell loss was 344.56 cells/mm2 (13.86%).

In divide and conquer group the effective ultrasound time was 24.44

seconds, the mean total energy was 2546.88 Jouls and the endothelial cell loss was 449.48 cells/mm2 (17.72%).
The phaco . time in case with grade I nuclear" hardness in the prechopping group was 14.57 seconds and 21.62 in divide and conquer group. In grade II nuclear hardness it was I 7.5 seconds in prechopping group and 22.38 in divide and conquer !,'TOUp. In grade Ill nuclear hardness it was 34.25 seconds in prechopping group and 36.75 in divide and conquer group.
Four cases in the prechopping group had tear of"the posterior capsule with vitreous loss, while this occurred in -3 cases of the divide and conquer f,>Toup.
