Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy In Management of Ureteric Calculi

Ashraf Sabry Kamel;

Abstract

This study present the hist01ical background of evaluation extra corporeal shock wave as lithotripsy as a non-invasive modality for management or uretral stones.

The physics of shock wave generation propagation and focusing are demonstrated, Uses of E.S.W.L. in treatment of ureteric stones at different level and its results as quoted from the lecture,

Upper ureter stone free rate range from 80 to 99 %.

Middle ureter stone free rate about 80 %.
Lower ureter stone free rate ranging from 78 % to 97 %.

·The s1ze of stone affected the stone free rate significantly, with increasing stone size. the stone free rate decreased, the location of stone has a significant impact on the stone-freerate.

Also, I discussed the indication and complication of E.S.W.L. in management of ureteric stones and the different indication to use ureteric stentor non.
There is no significant effect of the ureteric stenting was noticed.
