ENDOTHELIN-1 LEVEL IN CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE WITH PULMONARY HYPERTENSION

Abstract


This study included 30 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD] patients , 15 of them with pulmonary hypertension and 15 patients without pulmonary hypertension as a control group .


The aim of this work was to assess the arterial plasma levels of endothelin-1 and their relationship with pulmonary hypertension and gas exchange variables pre-and post-exercise in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease .


The two groups were subjected to history taking , full clinical examination , chest radiography , electrocardiography , echocardiography , spirometric lung function tests , laboratory investigations including liver , kidney function tests and blood sugar , incremental treadmill exercise up to maximal capacity , arterial blood gas evaluation pre and post exercise and endothelin-1 assay in arterial plasma pre and post-exercise .
