Abstract

OBJECTIVE:
This work aimed to compare the incidence of complications and surgical outcome in patients operated upon for multinodular Goitre and Graves diseases applying both modalities of surgery i.e. total and subtotal thyroidectomy. This would involve a retrospective study for patients that have undergone subtotal
· thyroidectomy during the past 10 years, and a follow up period of 1-

2 months for total thyroidectomy patients.

PATIENTS & METHODS:

15 Patients who where subjected to subtotal thyroidectomy during the past ten years as a treatment for either MNG or Grave's disease and were presentd to us during the period of this study (3 years) suffering from recurrence

15 Patients who had recently undergone total thyroidectomy as a treatment for either MNG or Grave's disease, with postoperative follow up to detect any complications which are mainly RLNI & hypoparathyroidism.

RESULTS:
high incidence of malignancy was detected in recurrent glands after STT, while low complications rate was detected with
TT.

CONCLUSION:
TT has become the surgical modality of choice in cases of MNG &GRAVE'S disease
