Investigations On The Separation Of Some Elements From Dilute Aqueous Radioactive Waste By Flotation

Amir Ezzat Abo Elhasan Abd Elalim;

Abstract

Release of hazardous pollutants and their dispersal in the environment can cause adverse impacts on the environment and to public health. These pollutants are more easily controlled when they are generated than after they are dispersed. It is therefore of prime necessity to design treatment processes that isolate and remove the contaminants at their source.
Wastewaters are one of the main sources of pollution attributable to many industrial, nuclear, pharmaceutical, biomedical, and many other activities. They impair water quality and/or disturb the natural ecological balance. The contaminants that cause problems include organic and inorganic matters such as toxic substances, heavy metals, radioactive materials, etc. Removal of hazardous compounds from wastewater streams by conventional methods, if possible, is usually not economic because of the large volumes of dilute wastewaters that need to be handled. Accordingly, new methods to treat wastewaters are highly recommended.
