Abstract

he a1m of endodontics and periodontics is to preserve and maintain the teeth and supporting structures in a state of health
and function.(IJ

Many studies have demonstrated significant microbiological similarities between infected root canals and adjacent deep periodontal pocketsY-4J In long standing endodontic infection, bacteria may propagate to the entire root canal system, including ramifications, isthmi, fins, and dentinal tubules. In these regions, bacteria are usually unaffected by the instruments and irrigants used in the chemomechanical preparation. Studies have reported that bacteria may remain viable even after complete chemomechanical preparation and thereby jeopardize the outcome of the root canal treatment. (Slit has been shown that significant number of viable bacteria is present throughout the radicular dentin of periodontally diseased teeth and that radicular dentin could act as bacterial reservoir from which periodontal pathogens can recolonize in the treated periodontal pockets leading to failure of therapy.( 6 ?J

Studies have demonstrated that intracanal medicaments influence the periodontal healing and repmr, provided that an endodontic-periodontic pathway such as patent dentinal tubules is present. (SJ

Low oxygen tension, nutrient supply, and loss of natural defense after pulp necrosis benefit microorganism interactions and lead to the predominance of obligate anaerobes. Facultative anaerobes
