Role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Assessment of Postoperative Shoulder Joint for rotator cuff injuries

Dhamer Abdulmohsin Mahdi;

Abstract

MRI plays an active role in post-operative shoulder imaging because of its superior contrast resolution. Post-operative imaging is performed when pain or disability occurs after a surgical procedure. It is important for the radiologist to accurately diagnose complication that might occurs after surgery to guide optimal treatment.
For assessment of patients who have undergone shoulder joint procedures. Imaging finding should be correlated to patient’s presentation because post operative imaging abnormalities do not necessary correlate with symptoms,so current symptoms and function are prereqwisted for an adequate interpretation..
Its adequate radiological interpretation of postsurgical findings-pathological findings in non -surgical patients may be anormal finding in postoperative situation. MRI of the postoperative rotator cuff is difficult to interpret.In the first year after surgery,MRI appearance of the cuff is variable and should be interpreted with caution.in our study we discussed the normal MRI appearance and complications of routine surgical procedures for treatment of injuires to the rotator cuff.This allow an accurate postoperative interpretation In our study,the most frequent postoperative complication detected by MRI was potoperative retear (60.0%.)
