Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is associated with accelerated atherosclerosis and increased risk of coronary heart disease. Both macro and micro vascular complications are more prevalent in diabetics than non diabetic populations.

Insulin resistance seems to have a major role in development of type 2 diabetes and may also be involved in atherogensis.

In the present work we studied 20 subjects with I.F.G. according to the criteria of ADA, 20 subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 20 sex and age matched control subjects .They were subjected to.
Full history taking and thorough clinical examination. Estimation ofF.B.G, PPBG, HbA 1c
Estimation ofvWF, lipid profile

Estimation of Fasting insulin, HOMA index.

The results of the present study showed significant higher level of vWF in l.F.G. in comparison to controls. Also a significant higher level ofvWF was found in diabetic subjects in comparison to controls.
On the other hand no significant difference in the level of vWF

was noted between I.F.G. and diabetic subjects.

A positive significant correlation was found between vWF and both HbA 1c and HOMA, in I.F.G. subjects

In the diabetic group positive correlations were found between vWF and HBA 1 c, HOMA, LDL, and Triglycerides
