SOMESTABILITYPROBLEMSIN HYDRODYNAMICS AND MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMICS
Mohamed Ahmed lbraheem;
Abstract
The. thesis concerns two problems. The first one is the study of the stability of a slab of an incompressible fluid. with exponentially-increasing density supported by a fluid of constant density in the presence of surface tension and rigid planes. A general dispersion relation is obtained and some special cases are recovered. It is found that:
[1] Surface. tension and rigid planes have a stabilizing effect. [2] Stratification has a destabilizing effect.
The second one concerns linear and non-linear analysis of the Rayleigh-Taylor stability of two thermally conducting fluids in the presence of magnetic field, and mass and heat transfer. The multiple time scale expansion method is employed for the. analysis. In the linear- analysis, a general dispersion relation has obtained. Many special cases are recovered.
In the non linear analysis, the stability criterion in terms of various competing parameters representing the equilibrium heat flux, latent heat of evaporation, vapor pressure, magnetic field, gravity, surface tension, densities of the fluids and thermal properties ofthe fluids is determined.
Remark:. Some results of this thesis have been accepted for publication as referred to in the list of references at the end of this thesis [48].
