Abstract

ABSTRACT

This thesis investigates the performance of an Humidification-
Dehumidification Desalination unit with an extra condensing surface on the
evaporator of a (HDH) refrigeration unit. The effect of several parameters
such as the type of packing material, the water flow rate, the temperature of
water, the air flow rate, and the air temperature on the unit production of
desalinated water were studied.
An experimental setup was used to perform experiments using several
packing materials namely: cellulose, clay balls, and saw dust. The water
temperatures introduced to the shower was 27 °C, 50°C, and 80 °C. The air
temperature was varied to be 37 °C, 65 °C, and 90 °C, using a set of heaters.
The air flow rate was changed by a volume damper between three different
settings. The water flow rate was changed using the inlet valve to take the
values of 150, 300, 450, and 600 kg/hr.
The effect of these parameters on the production rate was studied. And
