EFFECT OF COMBINED CONTROLLED HYPOTENSIVE ANAESTHESIA AND ACUTE NORMOVOLAEMIC • HAEMODILUTION WITH AUTOTRANSFUSION ON VITAL ORGAN FllNCTION IN GERIATRIC PATIENTS UNDERGOING MA.JOR ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY
Adel Ali Mohamed Ali;
Abstract
Surgical interventions, requiring the transfusion of excessive amounts of blood, are becoming more frequent, and the need for donor blood is continuously increasing. Although, considerable dvances in the safety of homologous blood transfusion have been developed but the potential risks of major blood transfusion reactions are still recorded. It was estimated that more than 5% of all patients receiving homologous blood transfusion have some undesirable reactions and these complications are proportional to the number of units transfused. Thus, any reduction in the number of units transfused is considered a potential benefit to the patient.
