RADIONUCLEIDE EVALUATION OF UPPER URINARY TRACT OBSTRUCTION

Mahmoud Fouad Sherif;

Abstract

Upper urinary tract obstruction is one of the commonest
a.L
urological proplems responsible for thousands of hospitla o..L
admission and surgicla procedures each year [1 .

Upper urinary tract obstruction is defined as obstruction at or abovetfhe vesico ureteric junction, resulting in a rise in ureteric pressure and increased peristalsis leading to subsequent dilatation which make the peristalsis inefficient and finally renal parenchymal atrophy, infection and renal failure will
ensue [21.

Upper urinary tract obstruction may be acute or chronic and its diagnosis is frequently suspected on clinical grounds but accurate diagnosis depends on radiologic methods, but the clinician is frequ ently confronted with a dilated collecting system, so distin c tion between significant mechanical obstruction and dilatation not associated with obstruction is
fundamental and critical to the patient managementl31.
