EFFECT OF SOME WATER POLLUTANTS ON FISH IMMUNITY

Mohey El-Din Mohamed Sayed Mekawy;

Abstract

Pesticides represented the most environmental pollutants allover the world. Serious problems were created due to the applications of pesticides either for mammals or aquaculture. Also pesticides are considered as the main source of water contamination through its direct application in control of aquatic weeds and insects. Bayluscide (mollu cicide) and Round-Up (herbicide) were commonly used in Egypt for eradication of molluscus and undesired weeds. As a result of these applications many hazards were carried out upon aquatic life.

In this study we try to clear out some toxicological aspects of short and long term exposures of Oreochromis niloticus, fish to the tested pesticides.

The present investigation included the following items.

1- Estimation of LCso/96 h. of both tested pesticides.

2- Effect of short and long term exposures of both pesticides on

Oreochromis niloticus fish with clearing their effect on:

a- Haematological pattern . (PCV, leucocrit and differential leucocytic count).

b- Some biochemical constituents which include serum total protein level, serum protein fractionation (electrophoresis), enzymatic . activity (alkaline phosphatase and cholinesterase enzymes), and serum creatinine level.
