Abstract
Advances in medical and surgical technology and an aging population have increased the demand for intensive care. The primary goal of intensive care is to prevent mortality in patients with reversible critical illness while preserving or improving functional outcome. The first intensive care unit (ICU) arose in Scandinavia in early
1950. The aim of our work was to assess the performance of
the pediatric intensive care unit over the last two years through calculating morbidity and mortality rates to detect risk factors which can predict high risk patients.
