Value of Axillary Lymphnodes Dissection in Breast Cancer

Abstract
-Female breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy among womenworld wide .
-The gold standard treatment for breast cancer is breast surgery followed by post operative adjuvant radio therapy.
Axillary lymph node dissection is of value as it :--
(1) leads to more effective adjuvant therapy with improved patient survival.
(2)provides local control with a possible increase in survival rate.
(3)provides stage of the axilla and prognostic information of value to the patient.
-Sentinel lymph node biopsy is one of the minimally invasive procedures that have been introduced in breast surgery to decrease morbidity following ALND.
-Complications of axillary dissection must be weighed against the prognostic benefits of ALND.
-Complications of ALND includes psychological as well as functional morbidity.
