Cleaning ability of single versus multiple filing system in combination with different agitation techniques (An In Vitro Study)
Amal Shabaan Ahmed;
Abstract
Shaping root canals is done using multiple or single filing systems ;while in literature many papers were published comparing shaping ability of both revealing no difference, few were published comparing their cleaning ability so the aim of our study was to compare their cleaning ability and to know whether agitation techniques improve it.
Extracted human mandibular molar teeth(n=60) with mature apices were used for this study .Teeth were examined forvisible root caries, fractures or cracks, signs of internal or external resorption or calcification with a fully formed apices that were confirmed radiographically. Decoronation of teeth were done using disc to obtain 13 mm root length.
All samples were randomly divided into two main groups according to the file used (ProTaper Next or One shape) in root canal preparation (n=30). It was further subdivided into 3 subgroups according to the agitation technique used (no agitation, PUI and ANP).
Canal patency of root canals was first checked using stainless steel K file #15* then flared using Endoflare; in One shape group , One shape file was progressed gradually to the apex while in ProTaper Next group; X1 followed by X2 were used. 2.5% NaOCl was used during shaping procedure.
