Abstract


This thesis deals with theore\ cal study of the ,_i nucleus using the refined resonating group method (RRGM).

The thesis consists of four Chapters and three Appendixes. Chapter 1 contains

an introduction in which a short survey of the historical background of the resonating group theory and the cluster model of nuclei and nuclear reactions is given.


In Chapter 2, we gave some examples of different cluster structure to clarifY the cluster concept. The local soft core nuclear potential used in this thesis was discussed and anticorrelation Jastro factor also explored. The general solution of many body bound state problems based on the variational principle was given. In our scattering calculations we firstly derived the solution of the variational equations for many body scattering, we showed that the resulting S matrix is not unitary, and to enforce unitary of S matrix we used Kato's correction. Finally, general formula for the reactance matrix were also derived.
