Summery
Polymers affect everyday of our life. These materials have so many varied characteristics and applications that their usefulness can only be measured by our imagination. Polymers are the materials of past, present, and future generation increase in the generation of plastic wastes. Solid wastes distribution in Western Europe. The total volume of waste was 2.6*109tones, although the total post - user plastic waste accounted for only 1.7 * 107tones, only 0.6wt% of the solid waste was plastic materials.
Due to the extensive use of plastic in packaging most of plastic waste is found in
"domestic refuse. Approximately 63% of the total plastic waste is disposed of in municipal solid waste (MSW) mixed with a wide variety of other solid wastes.
The increase in the use of plastic materials in all sectors of industry and in every day life, as well as the reduction in the life time of most plastic products have led to continuity of originating plastic waste. Plastic used in packaging and agriculture generally have a life time of less than 1 year, hence in this case the composition of the waste directly reflects the resin consumed. Plastics used in the manufacture of household items and electrical devices usually have a lifetime of about 10 years, where as the duration of plastics used in construction, automotive and furniture is typically over 10 years. There fore in the last two cases the wastes currently being generated account for products. That were produced and consumed some time ago.
The average composition of household waste in Western Europe,the plastic content in MWS being just 8 wt %. A similar proportion is found in the USA. The percentages by weight of different resins found in plastics household waste. Polyolefin (LDPE,HDPE and PP) account for approximately 60% of the total plastic waste in MSW, which is in close correspondence with the production of these polymers like wise. Over 90% of the total plastics waste is made up of just six resins (LDPE, HDPE, PP, PS, PVC and PET).
The amount of waste generated in Egypt is 36.000 ton/day .the plastic content in municipal solid waste (MSW) being just 8% of it. While in Alexandria th daily plastic waste produced is 227 ton where onlu 45 ton is recycled.
