Assessment of Quality of Life in Children and Adolescents with Type1 Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
T
he present study was designed to assess health related quality of life (HRQoL) in children and adolescents with type-1 DM, and to study the influence of glycemic control on quality of life among these patients.
This study is across sectional study. The study included 100 children and adolescent patients of both sexes with type-1 DM (30 males and 70 females) with age was ranging between 8 and 18 years with a mean of 12.96 years. They were randomly chosen from the regular attendants of the Diabetes Clinic, Pediatric Hospital, Ain Shams University during the period from June 2016 to August 2016.
Their disease duration ranged from 1 to 15 years with mean duration 5 years. The father and mother educational level was varying between illiterate to highly educated. All our patients were taking multiple daily injections of insulin.
In this study, we excluded patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, patient age less than 8 years and more than 18 years and patients having other chronic systemic diseases.
An informed consent was obtained from parents or their legal guardians after explanation of the study and aim of work.
