.EFFECT OF THYROXINE ON THE DEVELOPMENT AND CELL DIFFERENTIATION OF THE REGENERATES OF HIND LIMBS IN STAGES OF THE EGYPTIAN TOAD, BUFO REGULARIS REUSS
Elham Abdel- Sabour Abd-Allah Abdel-Samad;
Abstract
1 - The effect of thyroxine treatment in the concentration of 5
).!giL and 10 ).lg/L on the restoration of the regenerative capacity of the hind limbs of the larval stage (stage 54) and the metamorphic stage (stage 57) of the tadpoles of the Egyptian toad, Bufo regularis Reuss was studied after amputation at the knee joint level.
2- Treatment with I 0 ).lg/L thyroxine in the larval stage (stage
54) enhanced the regenerative power better than the concentration of 5 ).lg!L.
3 - Treatment• with 5 ).!giL thyroxine enhanced the regenerative power in the metamorphic stage (stage 57) slightly better than treatment with 1O).lg/1.
4 - The effect of tl1yroxine on enhancing the regenerative power is suggested to be directly either on the cells themselves or indirectly through stimulating insulin production in case of the larval stage (stage 54).
5 - The effect of thyroxine is suggested to be indirectly through stimulating insulin production in the metamorphic stage (stage 57).
6- The number of Figures of Eberth was found to be low in the treated groups compared to that of the control ones, and this is suggested to be due to the catabolic effect of thyroxine.
