CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL STUDIES ON SOME TRACE ELEMENTS DEFICIENCIES IN SHEEP AND GOATS IN SINAI PENINSULA

Abstract

This in vesti gation was conducted on 1 20 sheep and goats were collected from different loca liti es of Sinai Peninsula (ELArish-Raas El Nakab -El Kontella and Nekhel ) a nd exa min ed for the hematol ogical and pathological ch a n ges in association wi th th e type of trace element deficiency .

The exa min ed sheep and goa ts in th e different l ocalities of North Sinai Penins ula , showed a hi ghl y significant decrease of serwn copper and sign ifi cant decrea se in iron level except E l - Kontell a group w hich ex hibited. normal iron l evel .zinc and m a nganese of sheep and goats revea l ed non si gnifica nt differences in all l ocalities .

Th e a nimals suffered from co pper and iron deficiency showed normocyti c hy pochro mic anemia , a si gn ifica nt increa•se in th e li ve r en zymes , a signifi ca nt decrease in total protei n and a lbumin , a significant increase in t he urea a nd creatinine and slightl y enlargement and congesti on of the li ver , kidneys and spl een. The histopa thologi ca l • pictures reveal ed edema and degen eration of most organs .
