Abstract
Experiments were conduced in collaboration with sugar-beet Research Program, Sakha Agricultural Research Station. The study of several objectives, was carried out during 1 997/98, 1998/99, 1 999/2000 and 2000/200 I sugar-beet seasons.
The following is a su mma ry of obtained results:
A. ECOLOGICAL STUDIES:
1. Survey of insect pests, occurring in sugar-beet fields:
Forty insect species belonging to 26 families and 11 orders w re surveyed. In addition, two species of true spiders were detected. The surveyed species cou ld be grouped as follows.
1.1. Minor insects (visitors):
These insects were accidentally collected. They may be found as visitor insects, or drifted to sugar-beet plants by winds, using the crop for feeding or shelter. This group contained 8 insect pests and 5 insect predators.
The surveyed insect spectes were: Pieris rapae L., Autographa gamma L., Vanessa cardui L., Sitona lividipes Fahr, Phytonomus brunneipennis Boh., Oxycarenus hyalinipennis Costa, Euprepocnemis plorans Chrp. and Liriomyza sp. The collected predators were: Hemianax ephippiger Burn., Stilbum splendidum F., Polisters gallica L., Vespa orienta/is F. and Sphodromantis bimcaculatus Burm.
1.2. Ma jor insects:
This group could be classified into four sub-groups according to nature of damage to the sugar-beet plants as follows:
