Abstract

Nausea and vomiting (NV) are common during and after C-section under regional anesthesia and, without antiemetic prophylaxis, vary from 50% to 80% and are multifactorial in etiology. Different factors like psychogenic factors, surgical procedure itself, traction of the visceral peritoneum, uncorrected hypotension, administration of opioid drugs and uterotonic agents can lead to nausea and vomiting. Antiemetic agents used prophylactically either before or after cord clamping during cesarean section under regional anesthesia have been shown to be highly effective.
Numerous antiemetics have been studied for the prevention and treatment of for nausea, retching, and vomiting during regional anesthesia for cesarean delivery in parturients. These drugs include benzamides, anticholinergics, corticosteroides
