Motivation Factors Affecting Students` Success at Technical Institute of Nursing

Abstract
The motivation of students is a major issue in higher education. The nurse students' perceptions of effective and ineffective clinical instruction are of great importance. To create the nurses" personal characters, nursing education should be not only in form nursing students about their career choice, but also how to engage in nursing, and sustain their interest in nursing beyond initial training. Understanding what motivates nurses to engage in and be sustained through learning more about their work may be crucial to the maintenance of nursing workforces. This is of particular importance in Egypt today where the shortage of nurses, particularly qualified nurses is a key challenge facing health policy makers.
The aim of this study was to assess the motivation factors affecting nursing students" success in their studies at technical nursing institutes to learn through identifying the extrinsic and intrinsic motivation factors that affect success in nursing study as perceived by students. This descriptive cross-sectional design was carried out at ten Technical Institutes of Nursing in Greater Cairo on a sample of 500 nurse students. A their assimilation of theoretical and practical teaching. A pilot study was carried out and demonstrated good reliability of the tool scales. The data collection process was from October 2011 to September 2012.
The main study findings were as follows:
• Students' age ranged between 16 and 22 years, with 69.6% from urban areas.
• The highest percentages of fathers and mothers were having intermediate education, 33.6% and 31.2% respectively, with 54.2% of fathers having manual work, and 79.6%) of mothers being housewives.
• The majority of the students came from technical education system (94.0%), from public schools (97.2%o), and chose the nursing institution by their own will (85.2%), and the nursing as a career (78.0%).
