Abstract

The study included 30 ischemic male patients who fulfilled the above criteria. There were 15 diabetic patients (NIDDM) with a mean duration of diabetes of 9.3 ± 4.2 years and a mean age of 55.1 ± 7.2 years and 15
nondiabetic patients with a mean age 55.5 ± 8.2 years. Both groups were matched for age (p = 0.888). All patients were subjected to:
1- Full history and clinical examination.

2- Electrocardiographic (ECG) examination.

3- Echocardiographic examination.

4- Exercise treadmill testing was performed according to BROUCE protocol.

5- Cardiac autonomic function was evaluated by five simple bedside cardiovascular reflex tests (HR variation during deep breathing, Lying to standing maximum/ minimum 30:15 ratio, Valsalva ratio, Blood pressure response to standing and Blood pressure response to sustained hand grip).
6- 24-hours ambulatory ECG (Holter monitoring) for measurement ofHRV (Time domain which included SDNN, SDANN inde\, SDNN index, rMSSD and pNN%) and detection of ischemic episodes.
7- Coronary angiography.
