Association between Insulin Resistance and Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease

Mohamed Mahmoud Mohamed Said;

Abstract

O
ur data demonstrate a significant association between IR and GERD. Higher age was significantly associated with higher HOMA-IR index, higher cRDQ scores (sever GERD), increased prevalence of EE.
Smoking was significantly associated with higher cRDQ score and increased prevalence of EE, but no significant association with HOMA-IR. EE was more prevalent in males with significant association, but no significant association with GERD severity, although, males significantly have a higher HOMA-IR index than females.
Obesity (BMI and WC), was associated with a higher HOMA-IR index, higher cRDQ score, and increased prevalence of EE.
Higher HOMA-IR index was associated with a higher cRDQ score, and increased prevalence of EE. HOMA-IR index was positively correlated with metabolic syndrome components but negatively correlated with HDL levels.
