Abstract

The study was done on 60 subjects recruited from Ain Shams University hospitals in the period from April 2014 to January 2015, the subjects were classified into two groups:
• Group I

Patients group (I) had significantly higher scd 163 levels than healthy controls (II).
There was a significantly positive correlation between Scd 163 levels and INR, scd 163 levels and portal vein diameter in patients. While, there was significant negative correlation between haemoglobin and scd 163.
Scd 163 levels were higher among patients with bleeding OV than in non bleeding patients. Scd 163 > 2.01 was associated with 100% sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing portal hypertension.
